Thanksgiving: Acknowledging what we are thankful for.
Thanksgiving is the start to my favorite time of year. Everyone starts to become just a little nicer, a tiny bit more caring for their fellow human. We start to become slightly more aware of all the wonderful things we have in life. For some, it's the beginning of spending waayyyy too much time with their family, for others it's the time they get to see family they've been missing all year, and for some it can be a bit quiet and lonely.
In my family we have a tradition where we go around the table and say what we're thankful for. When I was 5 I said I was thankful for my dog Cuddles. I'm now 35 and one of my aunts refuses to let me live this down! I always start thinking early about the things that I'm thankful for so that I'm prepared. The usual thoughts that come up are being thankful for my parents, my family, a job, my friends, etc. As most of you know last year was a devastating year for me and my family. Unfortunately it didn't end there, this past January we lost my Grandpa. I have had so much time over nearly two years to reflect on myself and the life I'd been living.
We have all heard the old saying "If you don't like how things are, change it! You're not a tree." So that's just what I did. I changed them! After 17 years at the place that helped me grow as a stylist and a person I took on the role of a lifetime, Business Owner. It was terrifying and exciting and nerve-racking and thrilling all wrapped in to one very tightly wound package (it's me, I was the tightly wound package). I couldn't have gotten here without the love and support of a few amazing people; YOU!!! My wonderful clients. The amount of support and love you all showed when I stepped out on my own was so overwhelming and unexpected.
So with this very first blog post, on my very own website I would like to say that I am thankful for you. Each and every one of you who have shared your joys and sorrows with me over the last 17 years. I'm so thankful and grateful that you choose to trust me with your hair and your life experiences.
Happy Thanksgiving
